Captain's Newsletter April 2026

Dear Member,

Welcome back to a new season of golf at Sconser. The first event of the year is the
Captain/Vice-Captain day competition on 4th April and I look forward to seeing as many members as possible on the day. Breakfast rolls will be provided before a shotgun start at 10.00am and lunch will follow.

All Fixtures are now posted on the website and in the Clubhouse. We hope to have more Members enter competitions this year, so there are plenty of opportunities to take part.

Course Improvements

Over the Winter much work has been done on the Course. The Course measurements have been updated and verified by Scottish Golf. This season, the new tee will be in play on the 7th, and the former tee will now serve as the 16th. Red tees will both be on the new 7th. The 18th has been extended by 12 yards and will be played from the new tee. Some Stroke Index changes have been made. The new measurements are shown on the new scorecards and have been automatically updated in howDidido?

In addition to regular Winter maintenance, John has laid new paths and installed new stone tee markers. These have come courtesy of our neighbours at the Quarry. I hope you agree that they fit very well within the Course surroundings.

A couple of areas remain roped off to allow recently seeded and turfed areas to establish fully. Thank you for your patience as this gets completed.

And a new ball washer has been installed between the first green and the 6th tee.

Clubhouse

We have undertaken essential repairs in and around the Clubhouse and taken the
opportunity to renew our kitchen facilities. We have also upgraded the reception/ tearoom area of the Clubhouse, which will re-open for Members and Visitors on 3rd April.

Juniors

Katherine Tindall has taken on the role of Junior Organiser this year and will be contacting Junior Members and their Parents shortly with details of all activities and competitions planned for this year. Meantime, we are delighted that Linzi Dye, from West Kilbride GC will be visiting on 16/17th May again to provide coaching for Juniors so please save the date and Katherine will be in touch about booking time slots.

Katherine and Sarah Ross (Active Schools) will also be running a Taster Day for Juniors thinking about getting into golf on 16th April at the Club.

So, if you know of a potential Junior who might want to come along, please contact Sarah or Katherine direct on kaka.mackinnon@hotmail.co.uk

Details of the range of Junior Competitions we will run this year will be posted on the
dedicated area of the website and on FB shortly.

We are again delighted to have the support of existing and new corporate Sponsors.

This year, we have continued support from:

Website

We are currently upgrading the website so please bear with us for a week or two whilst this is carried out. In addition to regular newsletters from the Committee, we will also welcome John Marshall who is moving his column from the Free Press to a new home on our website.

The Committee will place copies of its meetings in the Clubhouse, to keep Members fully up to date. And there will be a dedicated Junior Section.

Membership Renewal

Junior Members are being charged a Membership fee this year of £35 or £25 each if more than one Junior joins from each family. This will help us organise coaching and competitions for our Juniors.

Finally, a gentle reminder that annual subscriptions are now due. These can be paid in cash,by Bank Transfer or Direct Debit. Please contact Fiona on
iofsgc@gmail.com if you need help to set anything up.

Enjoy your golf.
