From Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd April

I trust this finds you well and you have all survived the battering that the weather has thrown at you this winter.

With the season just around the corner, It’s that time of year we’re all looking forward to – some better weather and getting back on the golf course and that includes me. Pro’s On The Road will be back on the road visiting some of Scotland’s hidden gems in April. I will be visiting Isle Of Skye golf club on the 1^st (no April fools) and 2nd of April. I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting the new members.

There will be a Junior class on Friday at 3pm.  If you’re an adult beginner and looking to get the correct fundamentals before any bad habits set in, then come and join like-minded golfers between 11-12.30 for a get into golf group session. Afterwards we can all socialise and meet the members playing in the “Greenkeepers revenge” comp. 

One to One lesson’s will be available around the group timetable.

Speaking of greenkeepers, I’ve been following the hard work and changes John has been doing over the winter and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to seeing the progress and enjoying the fruits of his labour this year.

It’s been a busy winter for me between my Golf Studio in Stirling and trying to get the van with a mini shop, repair workshop and simulator ready for the season. Unfortunately It’s a slow process but almost finished so feel free to pop in and see it or come pick up your golf essentials, like golf balls, gloves, towels, tees etc. This year I’ve joined forces with a fellow pro and now have access to most manufactures so if you have seen any golf equipment you might like then please let me quote you a price. As this is still a new enterprise, I would appreciate your feedback on any equipment you would like me to stock or any services that would make your golfing experience more enjoyable.

Arnold Clark will be sponsoring the Craig Lee Foundation and my Junior golf club hire scheme. Getting the right clubs for juniors is very high on my agenda.  The old days of cutting down full sets (as I’m sure we all had as kids) is more damaging than you might think. Getting the right size, weight and forgiveness has been studied and catered for by manufactures. We all know how quickly kids grow and how expensive new clubs can be. The hire scheme allows you to lease the correct size and weight of golf clubs including a bag from as little as £30 per year.  After the years up, return them and get the next size up for the following season. So, if you’re looking for the right clubs for your kids then again, please get in touch.

GOLF TIPS

Grips, sizes and how to look after grips for a longer life span.

Getting the right size of grip can be one of the most important ways to control the ball flight. As you know hands come in all shapes and sizes so to think they all need a standard grip would be foolish. Your hands are the only part of your body that touch the club and therefore the only thing that controls the club face. Getting the right size of grip can sometimes help eliminate that wayward shot. It only takes a few minutes to get fitted so come in and get your free fitting and advice on grip size.

Most grips are made from rubber and rubber if not looked after will go brittle, shiny, and eventually start to flake. Brittle and shiny grips normally mean you’re grip pressure will get tighter to hold onto the club and that’s not good for the golf swing. If your grips look like this or have a groove in them from wear and tear, then it’s too late to look after them and your benefit from new grips.

Looking after grips is easy to do. You don’t need anything fancy and I’m pretty sure you’ll already have everything you need in your house to look after them. Put a little washing up liquid in a bowl of warm water ang give them a good scrub with a scrubbing brush. Remember to rinse the soap off before drying them or you might find them coming out your hand if they get wet on the course. I would recommend cleaning golf grips every 10-15 games or every 2-3 months.
